Set in 1946 London, The End of the Affair is about a novelist, Maurice Bendrix (Ralph Fiennes), who accidentally meets the husband (Stephen Rea) of his ex-lover, Sarah Miles (Julianne Moore), who abruptly broke off their relationship two years earlier.
The meeting rekindles an obsession as Bendrix arranges to have her followed. He learns that Sarah made a deal with God during a bombing scare that she would give him up if her lover was saved.
Bendrix and Sarah reunite as Sarah faces a spiritual dilemma of whether or not to go back on her promise to God which is complicated by her fatal illness.
Helmed by Irish director Neil Jordan, known for his stylish and psychologically complex productions, such as the lush In Dreams, The Butcher Boy, Interview with a Vampire, and The Crying Game.
The cast is of Oscar-winning caliber and the mid-December '99 release date presents high expectations for the film in terms of box office and critical acclaim.
