With a rumored $150 million price tag and no voice talent, Fantasia 2000 may be the most daring animated feature that Disney has ever committed to film. The 90-minute feature will recycle the original "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" segment, and will contain a seven new segments.
"Symphony No.5" is an abstract interpretation of Beethoven's famous symphony, "Pines of Rome" follows a CGI-Animated pod of whales, "Rhapsody In Blue," the familiar Gershwin tune, plays soundtrack to a scene set in Manhattan's Jazz Age. "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" is based on the Hans Christian Andersen short story, "Carnival of the Animals" promises to be a playful romp that answers the question, "What happens if you give a group of flamingoes a yo-yo?" "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" provides a link to 1940's original film, "Pomp and Circumstance" enlists Donald Duck as Noah's assistant and the main Duck in charge of getting the Ark loaded. "Firebird Suite" will round out Fantasia 2000 using one of Igor Stravinsky's most powerful compositions.
Fantasia 2000 will open January 1, 2000 in 100 IMAX theaters and play an exclusive 4 month engagement before getting released in traditional theaters in June 2000. The MovieStock will not be adjusted until the June release. IMAX receipts will not figure in the adjust price in June.
