Keanu Reeves stars in Hardball, a drama about an inner-city Little League baseball team. Brian Robbins (Ready to Rumble) will direct Reeves who plays a baseball coach in the film. The movie is based on the Daniel Coyle book ``Hardball: A Season in the Projects.'' It will be adapted by John Gatins, who co-wrote the Robbins-directed Varsity Blues. The main focus of the story is on the Reeves character as a young man who scalps tickets, gambles and drinks while his friends are settling down and making a life for themselves.
When he tries to borrow money from a friend, his buddy makes the loan conditional on that Reeves coaches a Little League team from the Cabrini Green housing projects in Chicago, a squad that his brokerage house is sponsoring. Reeves character mentors the kids and finds peace and salvation through the experience.
