Thirty-four-year-old Kevin Williamson can be credited for single-handedly starting the craze of films that target teen audiences. No one expected his self-reflexive horror film, Scream, to become a cult film that soon grossed over $100 million.
Studio executives took the hint following Williamson's second sensation, another teen horror film that he wrote, I Know What You Did Last Summer, quickly followed by Scream 2 which performed just as well as the original (a rarity for sequels).
Scream 3 is due in theaters in December, but it is Williamson himelf that has become the franchise.
Williamson will have his feature film directorial debut in the upcoming Killing Mrs. Tingle which he also scripted.
The majority of Williamson's other projects are targeted for a teenage audience, like the TV series "Dawson's Creek" which he created and excecutive produces.
Williamson caters to Generation Y which he, in part, helped create by reminding the media of the money to be made by catering to a youth market.
Next Williamson will make a foray into addressing the concerns of his peers, Generation-X, as they approach thirty. He'll be Executive Producer on a new TV series entitled "Wasteland."
