MGM and United Artists, both of which have a lengthy and impressive film history, merged in 1981. MGM previously thrived under the watchful eye of Louis B. Mayer and Irving G. Thalberg, who guided the studio through many of its early Golden Years (1924-1954). MGM's contract players included such screen legends as Clark Gable, Joan Crawford, Gene Kelly, Spencer Tracy, and Elizabeth Taylor. To this day, MGM's roaring lion remains one of the most recognizable trademarks in all of Hollywood.
United Artists was founded in 1919 by Tinseltown legends Mary Pickford, Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, and D. W. Griffith. This fantastic four created the studio which granted artistic freedom to its filmmakers. Today, UA has become the independent arm of MGM.
MGM Studio Fund will invest in upcoming films released under the MGM and UA banners.
Studio Funds delist and relist annually in September.
