The winner of several Nastri D'Argento awards in Italy, The Legend of the Pianist on the Ocean is an allegorical tale about a genial pianist who works on an ocean liner, and who has never left the confines of the ship.
Pianist opened in Italy in October 1998, and achieved fairly good box office results amid great critical success.
Tim Roth stars in the English-language film, which is directed by Giuseppe Tornatore.
Best known for 1988's Cinema Paradiso -- which won awards everywhere from Cannes to the Oscars -- Tornatore's other work includes 1995's The Star Maker and 1994's A Pure Formality.
