A sure-fire blockbuster for Memorial Weekend 2001, Pearl Harbor is billed as a character-driven story of love and war that is centered around the bombing of the Hawaiian sea port. Michael Bay will direct the Jerry Bruckheimer production, which has been written by Braveheart screenwriter Randall Wallace.
The story focuses on two young pilots, Rafe McCawley and Danny Walker, who are like brothers. Rafe's love for a U.S. Navy nurse, Evelyn Stewart, does not stop him from enlisting to help the English fight the war. In the meantime, Danny and Evelyn are transferred to Hawaii. After learning that Rafe had been killed in combat, the grief-strickened Danny and Evelyn fall in love. However, the return of a very much alive Rafe complicates their relationship in the mist of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Furthermore, both Rafe and Danny are selected by Colonel Doolittle for the suicide bombing raid over Tokyo.
The film was previously traded as Tennessee.
