After spending time in New York and Los Angeles trying to establish his early roots as a filmmaker, Robert Altman eventually returned home to his native Kansas City, where he took on a job working on industrial films. In 1957, the director had completed The Delinquents, which opened the door for Altman to direct two episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. He soon developed his own company, Lions Gate Films. Altman first found critical and financial success with 1970's MASH. As the unconventional director experienced several subsequent ups and downs over the next 30 years, his career has featured several highlights including Nashville, The Player, and Gosford Park.
