Stolen Summer by writer/director Pete Jones is the winner of the amateur filmmaking competition Project Greenlight. Kevin Pollak, Aidan Quinn, Brian Dennehy, and child actor Max Weinberg stars in the story of a young Catholic boy who wants to help a sick Jewish boy get into heaven. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon will executive produce the film along with Chris Moore (Good Will Hunting, American Pie).
Miramax will distribute Stolen Summer. The making of the film will be featured in an HBO documentary-style television series. The series will center on the contest winner and his adventures writing and directing his first feature film.
The Project Greenlight contest is a way to bring innovative filmmakers to Hollywood, and showcase new talent. Entries for the contest were narrowed down to 250, of which 30 were chosen for review by Greenlight. The next stage brought the entries down to 10 finalists who directed a short scene from their submitted script.
