The baseball and immigration drama follows a young Dominican player named Sugar who comes to the U.S. to play for a small town team. Being a fish-out-of-water, Sugar must learn the ways of his new surroundings. The film is written and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the duo behind Half Nelson. The HBO Films production gets its worldwide premiere at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.
