I don't care that the stock moved. Playing the players is an age old trading practice around here. What I do care about is him not taking

responsibility for his post. If you are going to post an opinion then have the balls to at least say yes it's an opinion  and that you can post opinions too. But he tried to say it was a news story (and if he says this type of posting is news then the gates are open boys) and he used CBALN and LOBO as examples, but those are news by any definition used on these boards and that's when that thread started to deteriorate. The gentleman mentions that he isn't holding the stock and D.mac's reply, So you're only complaining because you are losing H$. Got it. {nm}  well that kind of ends any discussion of a valid traders concern. Your just a sore loser and what you say doesn't matter. Huh?

He also cherry picked the very first line out of the review. He could have just let people click the link and let them read it for themselves and in context. He was already skewing HSX traders perceptions in the subject line and you can do that in a news piece  and add some flavour to it because no matter how you write GRITC to direct LOBO his is directing it's a fact.  Just let the traders read it and comment on the piece themselves. But this is an opinion piece and I don't care who Variety has on staff writing reviews it's still just his opinion and the THR  person liked  this movie. For being the guy that clamps down on any thing the might be a little hinky  on posts moving a stock I find this a little disingenuous.

And what papers and websites are allowed? We can fill the boards with reviews from NY Times, how about NY Post, Boston Herald, Chicago Tribune, SF Chronicle, Honolulu Advertiser? Of course  if everybody started linking to reviews from around the country it would end this effect pretty fast. The whole point of a critic is for people to find one (or several for different genre)  that has the same taste in movies as you that way you understand where the critic is coming from. this guy could have a bias against this type of movie. Unless you have read a number of his reviews you don't even know where he is coming from. He might like terrible horror movies, oh wait most horror movies are terrible but then that's just my bias as I don't tend to like 95% of them. The point is we have no reference to judge what this person has written. I don't have to figure out where a guy is coming from when he is writing news, we could post 50 linked articles mentioning GRITC directing LOBO and I don't have to worry about the guys opinion of comic books or Guy Richie because he divorced  Madonna. It doen't matter GRITC  directing LOBO is an is.

But what it really amounts to is that it was an opinion piece and not a news piece. Anybody actually remember when a review was posted to these boards. I can't think of one off hand and  I'm to lazy to look.

Secondly he has weight so he has to be more careful. But it's not like he will scribble himself. :) One member of Congress saying something gets a little press, the president of the united states saying something gets a lot of press.

96% of the people living in the United States who want to see TROAD will never read Variety. That's just one opinion. {nm} secretstalker Sep 03, 19:07

Precisely. {nm} Vashta Nerada Sep 03, 19:11

I'd express my opinion on this post, but seeing as no other opinions are posted yet, maybe I shouldn't? Yes, flawless logic. Sorry, had to Perfection Sep 03, 19:09

The Variety review was news-worthy because it was FIRST of a highly-anticipated movie. {nm} Antibody Sep 03, 19:33

The fact that it has generated responses from Playlist, Jeffery Wells and other bloggers makes it even more news relevant. {nm} Antibody Sep 03, 19:40

98% of the people living in the United States who want to see TROAD will never read either of those blogs. {nm} secretstalker Sep 03, 20:02

I think the fact that it generated responses on this board says a lot more. {nm} Vashta Nerada Sep 03, 22:41

Some people would find that Variety, THR and Playlist all don't think TROAD is a commercial film useful information. {nm} Antibody Sep 04, 09:31

I read a reviews of it last year and a couple this year. Last october Joblo said, "THE ROAD easily makes it into my top 5 thus far (2008)" Shrike Sep 04, 06:43

Those were unfinished cuts last year. {nm} Antibody Sep 04, 09:29

i can't believe you wrote so much. how many paragraphs is this? its like a manifesto {nm} Moviesnob Sep 03, 19:55
