Shooting is scheduled to begin later this summer in Marseilles after production was delayed while Urban fulfilled commitments for J J Abrams on the Star Trek sequel.
Grégoire Melin of Paris-based Kinology is financing the film and handles international sales. Eric Dussart serves as executive producer alongside Sentient’s Renee Tab, who helped package the film.
Overdrivecentres on two charismatic American brothers and car thieves who flee to the south of France where they fall foul of a crime lord. South Africa’s Antonio Negret directs.
“The film is non-stop action and thrills from the time you walk in until the time you text your friends to confirm dinner plans after the movie,” Morel said. “We’re going to do things that you’ve never seen actual cars do before on screen.”
Brandt and Haas’ credits include Wanted, 2 Fast 2 Furious and 3:10 To Yuma and they are currently writing Wanted 2 for Universal.
Negret most recently directed Transit for Joel Silver and Dark Castle/After Dark Film.
Urban will next be seen in Dredd, which previewed at Comic-Con last week and opens through Lionsgate on Sept 21.
