After The Hunger Games' four week dominance at the box office, the odds were in the favor of a new champion. Think Like a Man [TLKAM] took the crown with an estimated $33.0 million, a huge opening for a mostly African-American ensemble cast. Rather than skew to women like a romantic comedy, the film brought out a crowd that was 63% male more typical of a raunchy comedy.
The Lucky One [LUCON] opened a distant second at $22.8 million. The Nicholas Sparks romance attracted an audience that was 76% female.
The Hunger Games finished third with $14.5 million added to bring its total to $356.9 million.
Debuting in fourth place Chimpanzee [CHIMP] took in $10.2 million, the best 3-day total yet for a Disneynature opening over Earth Day.
The Three Stooges [3STOG] slipped 46% in its second weekend to $9.2 million.
