As the weekend's only new wide release, the sci-fi actioner Oblivion [OBLVN] easily topped the box office with an estimated $38.2 million. The debut is a Tom Cruise [TCRUI] best outside the Mission: Impossible franchise. Oblivion attracted an audience that was 57% male 74% ver the age of 25.
Last week's leader 42 [42] slid into second place with $18.0 million. The Jackie Robinson story slipped just 34% to bring its total to $54.1 million.
The Croods remained third overall with $9.5 million to advance its total to $154.9 million.
Scary Movie V [SCAR5] dropped 56% in its second weekend to finish with $6.3 million.
Expanding wide into 1542 theaters, The Place Beyond the Pines [TPBTP] earned $4.7 million for the sixth spot.
