Although easily topping the weekend box office with an estimated $55.0 million debut, The Wolverine [WOLV2] underperformed industry expectations. The sequel attracted only the die-hard fans as the audience was 58% males and 58% over the age of 25.
The Conjuring [CNJUR] declined a respectable 47% to $22.1 million and second place. The original horror film has scared up $83.9 million.
After 4 weekends, Despicable Me 2 [DESM2] banked another $16.0 million to bring its total to $306.4 million.
Turbo [TURB1] finished fourth with $13.3 million, down 37% from its opening. The racing snail has earned $55.8 million.
Two limited releases expandied into wide release. The drama Fruitvale Station [FRTVL] tallied $4.7 million to chart tenth overall. The comedy The Way, Way Back [WAYBK] followed in elevnth at $3.3 million.
