Holding the Easter holiday weekend with a better than expected 36% decline, Captain America: The Winter Soldier [CAPA2] earned $26.6 million retained the weekend box office title. The superhero sequel has amassed $201.5 million.
Rio 2 [RIO2] stayed in the second spot with $22.5 million. The animated film dropped 43% in its second weekend to bring its total to $75.4 million.
Heaven is for Real [HVNFR] debuted in third place at $21.5 million. The audience was 62% female and 50% under 35. The Christian drama has amassed $28.5 million since opening on Wednesday.
The sci-fi thriller Transcendence [TRNSC] bombed with just $11.2 million to open fourth overall. A Haunted House 2 [AHAU2] did half of the original with $9.1 million in fifth place.
The Disneynature documentary Bears [BEAR] charted at evelenth with a disappointing $4.8 million.
