Swinging into the groove of the fifth film in a franchise, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 [SPID5] topped the weekend box office with an estimated $92.0 million. The opening meet expectations, but fell short of Captain America: The Winter Soldier's 2014 best $95 million. The sequel brought out an audience that was 51% under the age of 25 and 61% males. With word of mouth mixed, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 may not be able to match the total of The Amazing Spider-Man.
Last week's top film The Other Woman [OTHRW] slipped to second place at $14.2 million, down a respectable 43% from its debut. The comedy has earned $47.3 million.
Heaven's For Real [HVNFR] remained at the third spot for its third weekend with $8.7 million. The drama now stands at $65.6 million.
In the battle for fourth, Captain America: The Winter Soldier edged Rio 2 [RIO2] $7.8 million to $7.6 million.
Brick Mansions [BRCKM] tumbled 63% to $3.5 million in its sophomore outing to bring its total to $15.5 million.
