With audiences paying tribute to the final performance of Paul Walker, Furious 7 [FAST7] races to an estimated $143.6 million opening weekend that demolish the current April record of $95 million as well as set a new mark for franchise best. The seventh installment brought back many familiar faces from the entire series and added several new stars. Furious 7 attracted a diverse crowd as 75% were non-White as Hispanics made up 37%, African Americans 24%, Asians 10% and 4% other. 66% of the audience was over the age of 25, while 51% was female.
Home [SMEKD] moved down to second with $27.4 million, off 47% from its debut. The DreamWorks Animated failmy film has scored $95.6 million.
Get Hard [GHARD] tumbled 62% in its second weekend to $57.0 million. The comedy has secured $57.0 million.
Cinderella [CINDE] finished fourth with $10.3 million to bring its total to $167.3 million.
Opening in 258 theaters, Woman in Gold [WMNGO] ranked seventh overall with $2.0 million.
