Despite a strong start at the weekend box office that was pacing ahead of The Avengers, the sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron [AVNG2] settled with an estimated $187.7 million, short of the record of $207.4 million. Saturday night was knocked down by the Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight of the Century that dominated the cultural conversation of the nation. The sequel also lacked unique urgency of The Avengers coming together for the first time. The audience was 59% male and 59% over the age of 25.
The Age of Adaline [ADALN] moved up a spot to second with $6.3 million. The romance declined 53% in its second weekend to bring its totatl to $23.4 million.
Furious 7 finished third with another $6.1 million to fill its tank up to $330.5 million.
Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 [MALC2] earned $5.5 million for fourth place and $51.2 million overall.
