Two blockbuster sequels entered the Memorial Day Weekend frame, but only X-Men: Apocalypse [XMEN6] survived unscathed with an estimated $80.0 million over 4-days. The sequel fell short of Days of Future Past, but ahead of First Class. Apocalypse connected with an audience that was 60% males and 58% over the age of 25.
Alice Through the Looking Glass [ALCN2] debuted in second place at just $34.2 million, well short of even the most modest expectations. Johnny Depp and 3D are not the draw they were in 2010. The fantasy sequel skewed 72% female and 59% under 25.
The Angry Birds Movie [ANGRB] took thrid with $24.6 million. The animated film has scored $72.3 million.
Captain America: Civil War [CAPA3] captured another $19.7 million to bring its total to $377.2 million.
Neighbors: Sorority Rising [NEIB2] rounded out the top five with $11.4 million. The comedy sequel has earned $40.7 million.
Expanding to 493 theaters, Love & Friendship [LVFRN] finished ninth overall with $3.1 million.
