Smashing the previous record high of $94.3 million for the month of August, Suicide Squad [SUICD] grossed an estimated $135.1 million. If the number holds, the opening would be the third highest of the year behind Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and ahead of Deadpool. However, Saturday dropped 41% from Friday, which included Thursday night. Younger moviegoers enjoyed the supervillains film more than their elders.
After one week at the top, Jason Bourne [BONR5] was knocked to second place woth $22.7 million. The sequkel tumbled 62% in its second weekend to bring its total to $103.4 million.
Bad Moms [BMOMS] held 60% of its opening to finish third with $14.2 million and $51.0 million overall.
Nine Lives [9LIVS] debuted in sixth place with $6.5 million. The family comedy attracted an audience that was 62% females and 50% under the age of 25.
