There were no surprises this weekend as all the new releases pretty much performed as expected. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children [PRGRN] led the box office with an estimated $28.5 million. The fantasy drew an audience that was 59% female and 55% under the age of 25.
Deepwater Horizon [DPWTH] debuted in second place with $20.6 million. The disaster film was well-received by critics and moviegoers alike and could have good legs.
Last weekend's top film The Magnificent Seven [MAGN7] dropped 55% to $15.7 million and third overall. The wetern remake has saddled up $61.6 million.
Storks [STORK] finished fourth with $13.8 million. The animated comedy declined just 35% to bring its sum to $38.8 million.
Sully [SULLY] rounded out the top five at $8.4 million. The drama has landed $105.4 million after 4 weeks.
Masterminds [LOMIS] netted $6.6 million to open in sixth place, while Queen of Katwe [KATWE] checked in at seventh with $2.6 million in its wide expansion.
