Setting a new opening weekend box office record for the month of March, Beauty and the Beast [BTATB] belted out an estimated $170.0 million. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice held the previous mark of $166.0 million. The musical also became the highest grossing PG-rated opener as well as the seventh best debut of all times. Beauty and the Beast drew an audience that was 60% female and 52% under the age of 25.
After one week at the top, Kong: Skull Island [SKULN] took second with $28.9 million. The monster flick dropped 53% from its opening to bring its total to $110.1 million.
Logan [WOLV3] finished third at $17.5 million and $184.0 million overall.
Get Out [GETOU] secured $13.2 million for fourth place to push its total to $133.1 million after four weekends.
Rounding out the top five, The Shack [SHACK] earned $6.1 million to reach $42.6 million.
The Belko Exeriment [BELCO] debuted at the seventh spot with $4.1 million.
