An animated new arrival has dethroned a musical classic as The Boxx Baby [BOSSB] topped the weekend box office with an estimated $49.0 million. The family film appealed to an audience that was 53% female and 62% under the age of 25.
Beauty and the Beast [BTATB] slipped to second place with $47.5 million in its third weekend to bring its total to $395.5 million.
Ghost in the Shell [GSHEL] debuted at the third spot with $19.0 million. The sci-fi adaptation underperformed expectations while attracting an audience that skewed 61% male and 76% over the age of 25.
Power Rangers [MMPR] tumbled 64% in its second weekend to $14.5 million and fourth overall. The sci-fi reboot has morphed $65.1 million.
Opening in 474 theaters, The Zookeeper's Wife [ZKPWF] took in $3.3 million to round out the top 10.
