Warner Bros. has another crazy rich weekend as the romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians [CRASN] held a crazy rich 94% of its opening to stay atop the box office with an estimated $25.0 million. The second weekend drop is the smallest for a live-action film on a non-holiday over 3000 theaters. The audience broadens demographically as the percentage of Asian-Americans decreased from 38% to 27%.
The Meg [MEG] remained in second place at $13.0 million, bringing its total to $105.3 million.
The Happytime Murders [HPTMR] opened in third place with $10.0 million. The R-rated comedy skewed 59% male and 63% aged 25 or older,
Mile 22 [MIL22] dropped 56% in its second weekend to $6.0 million and sixth overall. The actioner has earned $25.2 million.
Alpha [SOLUT] finished seventh with $5.6 million, down 46% from its debut. The adventure has reached $20.2 million.
In what be troubled Global Road's last wide opener, A.X.L. [AXL] managed just $2.9 million at the eighth spot.
Papillon [PAPIL] grossed $1.2 million from 545 theaters to open outside the top 12.
