As studios crowd the holiday weekend before Christmas with multiple options, Aquaman [AQUMN] emerged atop the box office with an estimated $67.4 million weekend, and a total of $72.1 million including the Amazon Prime sneak preview. The DC superhero attracted an audience that was 55% male and 58% 25 years or older.
Mary Poppins Returns [MPOPN] landed in second place with $22.2 million, and $31.0 million since opening on Wednesday. The Disney musical drew 59% female and 61% over the age of 25.
Bumblebee [TFRM6] debuted at the third spot with $21.0 million. Hispanics made up 25% of the audience for the Transformers prequel.
Last weekend's champ, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse [ASPDR] slipped to fourth at $16.7 million, down 53% from its opening. The animated film has nailed $64.8 million.
The Mule [TMULE] slowed 47% in its second session to $9.3 million, bringing its total to $35.0 million.
Second Act [2NDAC] opened seventh overall with $6.5 million. The romantic comedy skewed 70% female and 75% aged 25 or older.
Welcome to Marwen [MARWN] bombed out at ninth with just $2.4 million. The audience was 52% female and 79% over 25.
Expanding to wide release, Mary Queen of Scots [MQOFS] secured $2.2 million followed by The Favourite [FVRIT] with $2.1 million.
