Despite opening at just half of the 2014 original, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil [MALF2] topped the weekend box office with an estimated $36.0 million. The fantasy sequel brought out an audience that was 56% female and 54% aged 25 or older.
After a two week reign, Joker [JOKER] was second at $29.2 million. The comic supervillain has banked $247.2 million.
Zombieland: Double Tap [ZMBL2] debuted in third place with $26.7 million, higher than the 2009 original. Audience for the comedy sequel was 57% male and 56% aged 25 or older.
The Addams Family [ADDAM] finished fourth with $16.1 million, down 47% from its opening weekend. The animated film has drawn $56.8 million.
Gemini Man [GEMAN] dropped 59% in its second outing to $8.5 million. The sci-fi actioner has totaled $36.5 million.
Playing in just 33 theaters, Parasite [PARST] grossed $1.2 million to take the eleventh spot. The South Korean film has grossed $1.8 million after 10 days.
