With little competition on the weekend after Thanksgiving, Frozen II [FROZ2] looks to ice the box office for a third straight weekend. The animated musical sequel could put another $45 million in the freezer.
With excellent reviews and word of mouth, Knives Out [KNIVS] should be able to hold 55% of its opening weekend and slice up $14.5 million.
After a better than expected debut, Queen & Slim [QNSLM] could also hold around 55% in its second weekend for $6.5 million.
Focus Features expands Dark Waters [DRYRN] wide to 2011 theaters after racking up $1 million in two weeks of limited release. Mark Ruffalo and Anne Hathaway star in the true-life drama about a lawyer going up against a corporation. With excellent reviews, Dark Waters could churn out $5 million.
STX picked up Playmobil: The Movie [PMOBL] from the bankrupt Open Road and dumped it onto one of the slowest weekends of the year. Despite charging only $5 per ticket, the animated film is unlikely to attract much family business. Playing in 2300 theaters, Playmobil: The Movie may net $2.5 million.
That’s the whisper on the virtual trading floor.
