Despite Sony trying to lower expectations for their franchise sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level [JUMN2] opened at an estimated $60.1 million, the biggest December debut in the studio history. The fantasy appealed to an audience that was 56% male and 71% under the age of 25.
Frozen II [FROZ2] slipped to second place with $19.2 million, advancing its total to $366.5 million.
Knives Out [KNIVS] finished third with $9.3 million, bringing its total to $78.9 million after 3 weekends.
Richard Jewell [RJEWE] took in $5.0 million to debut at the fourth spot. The drama brought out a crowd that was 54% male and 56% under 35.
Black Christmas [BCHRS] unwrapped $4.4 million for fifth overall. The 54% female and 57% 25 or older audience gave the horror remake a D+ CinemaScore.
