More theaters are closing this week as some states locked down due to the exponential spread of COVID-19 cases. With no major new releases, Freaky [FEAKY] will remained the top choice at the weekend box office. Freaky could lose 55% of its debut for a sophomore frame at $1.6 million.
In its third weekend, Let Him Go [LETHG] may be able to bring home $900K.
Vanguard [VNGRD] gets a wide release through Gravitas Ventures, which is offering a special Jackie Chan [JCHAN] Fan Event for Thursday night. The Chinese action film has received poor reviews, so even older Chan fans will stay home. Vanguard looks to target $400K from 1,376 locations.
The Last Vermeer [LYREB] is the latest movie being dumped by Sony. The World War II drama was originally set to be released over the summer by Sony Pictures Classics. The R-rated arthouse film is unlikely to earn more than $150K from 869 theaters.
That’s the whisper from the virtual trading floor.
