Despite being theatrical exclusives, two new studio films underperformed in their debut at the box office. Universal’s Old [OLD] topped the weekend with an estimated $16.5 million giving M. Night Shyamalan his sixth number one film. The thriller received an CinemaScore of C+ from an audience that was 52% male and 62% over the age of 25.
Paramount's Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins [GIJO3] opened well below expectations in second place at $13.4 million. The actioner skewed males at 60% while splitting evenly between the sexes.
Black Widow [BWDOW] netted another $11.6 million, bringing its total to $154.8 million after its third weekend.
Last weekend’s champ Space Jam: A New Legacy [SJAM2] finished fourth with $9.6 million, losing 69% from its debut. The running total stands at $51.4 million.
Escape Room: Tournament of Champions [ESCR2] fell 61% in its second weekend to $3.4 million. The thriller sequel has tallied $16.0 million.
The Boss Baby: Family Business [BOSS2] earned $2.7 million to advance its total to $50.1 million after 4 weekends.
The Forever Purge [PURG5] grossed $2.3 million in its fourth weekend for a cumulative total of $40.3 million.
Joe Bell [GJBEL] rung up just $707K in its opening weekend.
