Sony and Tom Holland are poised to regain the box office title over the President’s Day holiday weekend with the long-awaited action adventure Uncharted [UNCHT]. Holland stars as Nathan Drake in the prequel to the popular Playstation videogame series, while Mark Wahlberg co-stars as his mentor Sully. The casting has irked the fanbase who preferred someone older like Nathan Fillion. Nevertheless, the PG-13 rated film has outperformed expectations overseas. That bodes well for Uncharted’s domestic prospects despite mixed reviews. Loading up 4275 theaters, Uncharted could loot $39.0 million over the 4-day weekend.
Channing Tatum makes his directorial debut and toplines the PG-13 rated drama Dog [DOG]. The road trip movie has earned excellent reviews. Playing in 3677 theaters, Dog could bring home $11.0 million over the long weekend.
Death on the Nile [DNILE] looks to capture $9.0 million during its second outing while fellow sophomore pic Marry Me [MARRY] may lock down $5.5 million.
Jackass Forever [JCKA5] could score another $5.0 million over its third frame.
LD Entertainment is self-distributing the R-rated horror The Cursed [8FSLV] in 1687 theaters. However, the werewolf flick has minimal marketing and little buzz. The Cursed is likely to top out at $1 million over the holiday weekend.
That's the whisper from the virtual trading floor.
