Scoring the best second weekend ever for an animated film, The Super Mario Bros. Movie [MARIO] topped the box office again with an estimated $87.0 million, down just 41% from its debut. The Nintendo adaptation has already amassed $347.8 million.
The battle of two R-rated horror debutantes was won by The Pope’s Exorcist [POPEX] with $9.15 million for second place. Renfield [RENFI] sucked in just $7.77 million for the fourth spot.
John Wick: Chapter 4 [WICK4] finished third with $7.925 million to push its total across $160.1 million after 4 weekends.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves [DNDGN] cleared another $7.35 million, bringing its 3-weekend haul to $74.07 million.
AIR [AIRJO] slipped 47% in its sophomore session to $7.72 million. The running tally sit at $33.28 million.
Suzume [SUZUM] debuted with $5.0 million. The anime attracted an audience that was 60% males with Asians the biggest ethnicity at 36%.
Opening in 2002 theaters, Mafia Mamma [MAFMA] earned $2.045 million.
Sweetwater [SWATR] bombed with a $350K debut in 1204 theaters.
