The second Juneteenth federal holiday ever brought three new wide releases which all underperformed. The Flash [FLASH] led the weekend box office with an estimated $55.1 million Friday to Sunday and $64.0 million over the 4-day holiday. Hyped by Warner Bros. as the greatest superhero movie ever, The Flash debuted even less than the maligned Black Adam. The 74% male audience rated the film only a B CinemaScore.
Elemental [ELMNT] opened with $29.5 million over 3-day and $33.34 million over 4-day. The Pixar animated film received an A CinemaScore.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse [ASPD2] nabbed another $27.8 million over 3-day and $32.42 million over 4-day for a total of $285.0 million through Monday.
Last weekend’s top film, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts [TFRM7] finished third at $20.0 million, down 67% from its opening. The 4-day estimate of $23.0 million takes its total to $103.62 million.
The Little Mermaid [TLMER] banked $11.6 million over 3-day and $13.34 million over 4-day, bringing its total to $255.3 million through Monday.
The Blackening [BLCKN] debuted with $6.0 million over 3-day and $7.0 million over 4-day. The horror film attracted a diverse audience that was 53% Black.
The Boogeyman [NTERR] grossed another $3.8 million in its third weekend. The $5.75 million 4-day estimate brings its total to $33.32 million.
