For a second weekend in a row, the Easter-themed family comedy Hop [IHOP] dominated the box office with an estimated $21.7 million. Russell Brand [RBRAN] voiced the animated bunny, which drop 42% in its second trip to bring its cumulative total to $68.1 million.
Brand also finished second with his comedy remake Arthur [ATHUR] which led the four new releases at $12.6 million. 64% of its audience was over the age of 25.
The thriller Hanna [HANA1] debuted in third place with a robust $12.3 million. However, poor word of mouth is likely to sink its long term prospects.
Soul Surfer [SOSRF] earned $11.1 million to open in the fourth spot. Audiences loved the inspirational story, which should have long legs at the box office.
Insidious [NSIDI] declined just 27% in its second weekend to $9.7 million. The horror film has scared up $27.1 million.
Your Highness [YURHI] flopped at the sixth position with just $9.6 million.
