Leading the weekend box office with an estimated $56.0 million, X-Men: First Class [XMEN4] scored the franchise's lowest opening since the first X-Men $54.5 million in 2000. The prequel set in the 1960s featured a new cast who are not established draws. Great reviews and word of mouth should help the film hold up in the long run.
Last weekend's champ The Hangover Part II [HNOV2] stumbled 62% to $32.4 million. The R-rated comedy has already amassed $186.9 million after 11 days.
Kung Fu Panda 2 [PAND2] declined 49% in its second weekend to $24.3 million. The animated sequel sits at $100.4 million.
Pirates of the Carribbean: On Stranger Tides [PIRT4] finished fourth with $18.0 million, bringing its domestic total to $190.3 milllion.
Rounding out the top five, Bridesmaids [BRDSM] secured another $12.1 million to cross the century mark at $107.3 million.
