I can't remember all of the revisions over the years . . . shorting, bond calculations, share limits, introduction of derivatives, commissions (and commission-free periods), weekly deadlines, etc etc etc. Historical pointers such as yours are nice to have. It also would be nice to have a summary of the evolution somewhere. I would love to be able to expand the period of "net worth history" to observe how my portfolio has progressed over the years.
I agree with many/most of your observations. And that description of Grory's prowess is something.
I have detected an increasing importance is "playing the players." Stocks and bonds regularly rise or fall contrary to all evidence. It seems increasingly important to look beyond one's particular circumstances and recognize that small-portfolio interests, bandwagon trading, overreaction to news, and the like are at times far more important than the likelihood that a movie will be completed or the adjustment prospects.
It was much tougher to generate profits a decade or so ago, if only because of share limits and fewer securities. These kids today have it so easy . . .
