I posted my surprise about the Tuesday bump this past week, and looking through Mojo's daily data I think I was justified.
The biggest Tuesday bump percentage was Feb 14th 2012 with 153% and $16.804m, and dollar-wise was Feb 14th 2017 with 133% and $16.864m.
But for normal non-holiday Tuesdays the biggest percent bumps have been significantly smaller days dollar-wise. Going from the years 2015-2018 Tues increases over 50% and/or over $7m for the top 10:
- July 14 2015, 30.8% and $7.3m (Minions)
- Nov 10 2015, 51.3% and $4.8m (Veteran's day Nov 11th, semi-holiday)
- Jun 28 2016, 40.1% and $9.0m (Dory)
- July 12 2016, 29.3% and $7.0m (Pets)
- Sep 20 2016, 54.4% and $3.2m
- Sep 27 2016, 52.5% and $3.3m
- Jul 11 2017, 33.1% and $7.5m (DM3 and SM:Homecoming)
- Aug 22 2017, 50.9% and $3.8m
- Oct 3 2017, 55.1% and $2.9m
- Dec 5 2017, 55.9% and $3.7m
- Jun 26 2018, 27.9% and $8.5m (Incredibles and Jurassic)
- Jul 3 2018, 33.2% and $8.2m (same)
- Jul 10 2018, 41.4% and $8.2m (same + Antman)
- July 17 2018, 54.2% and $10.169m (same + Hotel Tr 3)
So the large dollar value Tuesday bumps come from Animated movies. And this past Tuesday was both large in percent terms but was also the biggest dollar bump of any non-holiday Tuesday ever, and that's without any huge movies playing.
