I now have a specific example of what I was referring to:
CTREV will adjust next week as the director of JURA6.
Looking at his past history, you see his most recent HSX credit was The Book of Henry.
That film's page shows a total gross of $4,219,536. Checking the history of that film, I find that it reached that amount on July 9, 2017, which was the end of its fourth week of release. Despite the "limited" status shown on the film's HSX page, it actually was a wide release although it's number of screens faded fairly quickly. The movie continued it's run until at least Aug. 17, 2017, and possibly a few weeks longer, that data is a bit muddled.
It's reported box office gross eventually reached $4,504,974, but that figure was never updated on the film's HSX page.
That later number, however, typically will be picked up and used when CTREV's new TAG is recalculated at the JURA6 delist. A similar process occurs routinely with films involved in bond adjusts.
Admittedly, that is not a huge difference in this example but it does illustrate the point I was making that the gross on the page for a film in a TAG's history does NOT get updated regularly - certainly NOT each Monday. My observations in the past have been that the updated numbers typically will be posted to the film page after it has been used in updating a bond's TAG at some point in the future - but will typically NOT be seen on that page until after the fact.
The grosses typically do not get updated regularly after a stock delists and the gross is no longer a current concern for any portfolio. (Considering the number of old deactivated films in HSX's database this is understandable.)
Thus, the need to research and verify the past grosses with a reputable source. On some occasions, the difference will be several million dollars and will have a definite impact on the calculation.
The other related item is that bond TAGs do NOT get updated regularly. In this example, as of June 26, 2022, the TAG listed on the page for CTREV was $86,075,776. The HSX gross for JURA6 on its page at that time was $249,796,690. The JURA6 gross was updated following the weekend to $303,065,330. The TAG for CTREV is still listed as $86,075,776. The TAG listed on a bond's page does NOT get updated weekly/routinely. It is updated only when there has been a new delist and the price is adjusted to match at that time. It is true that, until there is another new TAG and adjustment, the bond's price floats according to market activity.
When considering whether to buy or short a bond for an upcoming adjustment, it is, of course, appropriate to compare the anticipated new TAG to the current price of the bond, NOT to its previous TAG.
