The D.Mac/TROAD Debacle

Posted by: Vashta Nerada (a.k.a H-Mogul) on Sep 03, 18:59

Yes, I have been corrupted by TMZ.  :)-

Reviews are only one persons opinion. It's one of the reasons you seldom see any of the regular news posters post reviews I don't remember OTT ever  posting a review, I seldom posted reviews except for the odd movie I was geeky on and everybody knew I was. Stuff like that posted to  these boards gets an exaggerated effect.

If you are going to post reviews at lest direct them to some place like Rottentomatoes where there are a number of reviews posted for people to look at.  As much as Variety and THR are bibles around here almost nobody in the real world read them most people get the reviews from their local paper or from TV shows like Roger Ebert's.   But everybody here reads Variety and the THR even if it's only for news. There are posts from those two sites on every board so you will get a response just on name recognition. If people want to read reviews there are a hundred sites out there that are easily Googleable with RT being  probably the most well known aggregator of reviews. You specifically pointed out the only known review online at this time, and unlike news it won't be the same when another critic reviews it.

"I post news all the time. You didn't complain when LOBO or CBALN skyrocketed. {nm}"   quote from D.Mac. You you are using apples and oranges, that seems to go on  a lot on these boards.  Except for one thing CBALN  and LOBO got directors, that is news. That's a FACT, Jack."1* You specifically pointed out the only known review online at this time, and unlike news it won't be the same when another critic reviews it. Somebody writing a review is an opinion. Opinions are fine if there are other opinions out there, either pro or con. If you are going to post reviews at least direct them to some place like Rottentomatoes where there are a number of reviews posted for people to look at.  If people want to read reviews there are a hundred sites out there that are easily Googleable with RT being  probably the most well known aggregator of reviews. And it is precisely for this reason that they aren't posted on the boards, everybody has an opinion, so we just get to pick and choose the ones we like. I can see a real can of worms opening here.

I think to avoid this problem you should just stick to posting on the announcement board and leave this one to the professionals. Or if you must post news just stick to factual information.  If it's posted there people will find it. And you will avoid this type of incident in the future.  It seems like you have problems with some peoples opinions and not others on this board. I'm still confused when you gave me a hard time for saying maybe CNOLA was maybe trying to get an early start on BATM3 when he dropped out of PRSNR. He's  currently attached to nothing post INCPT and that's the 800 pound gorilla. He's done one and two, and we had GOLDM open his mouth at ComicCon and just a s speedily retract it as I'm sure the suits at the WB were speed dialing him to shut up. What my opinion isn't as good as others? You can't speculate on theses boards. Or is it only certain people can give an opinion supported or not on these boards. Or maybe you just have to write for another site for your opinion to be valid.

Second I don't know what justification one can have at posting reviews especially for one not opening for another 6 weeks. Has it even been made available to general critics yet? I can see where people  are coming from when they say "manip much." I did a google of "The Road" and after wading through a ton of book reviews I still found only reviews from THR and Variety. So people couldn't even counter post the Variety opinion until THR came out with one. The average trader couldn't counter post as the average trader here won't have to opportunity to see it until Oct 16. So the review that was posted was pretty much posted in a vacuum. RT still only has one review listed for TROAD. You really have to be careful what opinions you choose to post (unless Fox news is your model) or do you think a 15.5% response to a simple movie review was appropriate?  You didn't manip, PLEASE NOTE D.MAC DID NOT MANIP THAT STOCK!, but in the same breath you can't deny that that post didn't have any effect on that stock. Saying you didn't tell people how to trade is a cop-out as that's the first rule of posting news unless specifically asked you don't comment on it you let the traders make up there mind if the news is positive or negative. It's also a disservice to the trader community as it was an opinion posted as a fact. "This road leads nowhere" might be quoting Variety but it's also a leading statement for those that react to the subject header and then read the article second. In a game that is based on news waiting to read an article can cost you money. It's standard operating procedure on posting news give the relevant facts in the subject line, the traders demand and deserve it.

I have absolutely no problem with reaction to posts even when I'm not around that's what makes the game interesting and even more exciting. I wasn't here for the first post and I wasn't here for the THR counter post. I just have to figure out what it will do next short-term, you know the daytrader type stuff. :) But this will be forgotten in the next few days as traders move on to other things. The movie isn't going to be released for another 6 weeks there are a lot of other factors that will come into play before the release and this down blip will be nothing more then a footnote in the trading history of the stock and not matter all that much in the long term as people position themselves for the adjust. This is one of the reasons I don't  pay much attention to  posters that comment on (whine about) daytraders, as far as I can tell daytrading has little effect on long term trends. Pick any stock on Wall Street that is trending up or down and you will see upward and downward ticks in that trend-line, daytraders play them, long term traders just go with the trend. Daytraders take the risk that they can market time the trend-line and not get bit by it.

Whether you like it or not you are the Grand Poobah 2* of HSX and what you post has weight. You are the Great Arbiter of the boards. You have to be even more careful in what you post then cat, myself and a few other well known posters on the boards. People react to our posts because over time the traders have come to trust that we won't blow smoke up there kilts/skirts.

At least the boards were a fun read today. MIRc too when I scrolled back to read what was posted. :)-

1*. It's never a bad day when you can quote "Stripes." :))
2*. I love the Flintstones.

Just my opinion or 2 cents, pictures at 11:00.

96% of the people living in the United States who want to see TROAD will never read Variety. That's just one opinion. {nm} secretstalker Sep 03, 19:07

Precisely. {nm} Vashta Nerada Sep 03, 19:11

I'd express my opinion on this post, but seeing as no other opinions are posted yet, maybe I shouldn't? Yes, flawless logic. Sorry, had to Perfection Sep 03, 19:09

The Variety review was news-worthy because it was FIRST of a highly-anticipated movie. {nm} Antibody Sep 03, 19:33

The fact that it has generated responses from Playlist, Jeffery Wells and other bloggers makes it even more news relevant. {nm} Antibody Sep 03, 19:40

98% of the people living in the United States who want to see TROAD will never read either of those blogs. {nm} secretstalker Sep 03, 20:02

I think the fact that it generated responses on this board says a lot more. {nm} Vashta Nerada Sep 03, 22:41

Some people would find that Variety, THR and Playlist all don't think TROAD is a commercial film useful information. {nm} Antibody Sep 04, 09:31

I read a reviews of it last year and a couple this year. Last october Joblo said, "THE ROAD easily makes it into my top 5 thus far (2008)" Shrike Sep 04, 06:43

Those were unfinished cuts last year. {nm} Antibody Sep 04, 09:29
