about your IM ( La Dolce Vita )
My feeling with films like La Dolce Vita, Citizen Kane, Lolita, and even Fanny and Alexander... you know those old great 'over two hour long classics'... For me, as a film lover, to see them for the 3th or 4th time... they have lost a lot of their magic. You know what is going to happen, but it seems to take very long before you get there. I guess it's because of television rhytm and modern films we are used to now.
The strange thing is that if a young new viewer sees them... ( but ONLY IF THEY HAVE NO EXPECTATIONS OF GOING TO SEE AN IMPORTANT MASTERPIECE ... so never go that route with your children, friends etc ) they get drawn into them & really really like them for their slower tempo and great nonchalant acting.
So My advice, if you want to show one of those to one of your loved ones, downplay your enthousiasm or film-knowledge.
Saw La Dolce Vita 5 years ago on television... and as much as I loved it once, I was a bit bored by it .
Still a B- for me.
