I'd say most of the hostility is miss guided. Governed, in part, by a "occupy" bias, and a lack of knowledge about A Tale of Two Cities

I'll focus on just a few lines from that article.

As Cook says: "The simple impression I got was that Nolan saw the disgruntled "Occupy-minded" folks as greedily biting the hand that feeds, a self-destructive mob of drones.

I'd ask Cook if he ever read A Tale of Two Cities?  The entire movie is based on that story and a lot of the meaning is tied to that story.  The script was finished long before the "Occupy" movment, and was shooting just as it got underway.  Most of the critisim from this angle is based on a lack of knowledge by the reviewer.

I was struck by the utter lack of "ordinary people" in this picture.

Again, this comes back to A Tale of Two Cities.  When I watched TDKR with my wife yesterday she clarified this point for me.  In the the book the "normal" people aren't in it.  They are actually cowering in their homes as the Hoodlums rip everything apart, and they hope and pray that they aren't pulled out and "judged" as the more prominent people are.  It's not until the end where everyone comes out of their home that they have a role.

Bane as a Villan was always anybody's guess if it would work, and for me it was much better done than anything they could have done with Bane.  They gave him a far better backstory than he ever had, and gave him a real purpose for going after Batman the way he did.  Otherwise we would have had a Mafia fueled plot and we've already had those as the backdrop in the last two films.

Rank this summer's superhero films Mr. Smitherz Jul 29, 11:59

They are all very close to each other... LanceStorm22 Jul 29, 12:12

Didn't see Spider-Man so I'd say TDKR > Avengers. darknightz Jul 29, 12:12

I'm with you on The Avengers-related films. Found the lead-up films better than the culmination. {nm} Mr. Smitherz Jul 29, 12:14

I'll rank Avengers and Dark Knight Rises equally in spite of being different from each other. Spider-Man was uninvolving IMO. Jay_Beezy Jul 29, 12:27

Jeff Wells noticed and mentioned the TV movie quality of The Avengers multiple times. Mr. Smitherz Jul 29, 13:44

The Avengers is a great popcorn movie. Put mind in neutral and enjoy. TDKR is a wonderful motion picture full of drama and character study. Tanker Jul 29, 14:06

And the third is just an old meal from whereever reheated in a microwave. {nm} Jay_Beezy Jul 30, 09:55

If you wanna talk about TV movie quality, one could easily say TASM was Spider-Man for the Lifetime channel. {nm} Jay_Beezy Jul 29, 15:53

I haven't seen "The Avengers." SPID4 is well-enough done, but unambitious; BATM3 seemed to me a mixed blessing... second gary Jul 29, 12:52

Avengers, Spider-Man, TDKR Power87 Jul 29, 14:41

Avengers, Spider-Man, The Dark Knight Returns Budd Jul 29, 15:13

Dark Knight Rises {nm} b4bad Jul 29, 16:22

TDKR,Avengers, did not like the TASM (Spidey has always been my all time fav comic character), Ghostrider sucked less than the last one, b4bad Jul 29, 16:26

The Amazing Spider-man is a counter example to both The Dark Knight Rises and to The Avengers. medv4380 Jul 29, 17:26

I'm not as down on TASM as you are, but you pretty much nailed it on Avengers and TDK/TDKR. {nm} Tanker Jul 29, 17:38

As I said, I have mixed feelings about BATM3; but there is real and credible hostility for the movie which I don't... second gary Jul 29, 18:15

I have not read "A Tale of Two Cities." I read recently a great French Revolution novel, "A Place of Greater Safety" by Hilary Mantel... second gary Jul 29, 19:28

Bane Could have had improvements, but spoilers medv4380 Jul 29, 20:52
