Considering JABRA is systematically re-writing the the past movies, it almost seems like an insult. At least be original. {nm}

I think the franchise is valuable enough that there's always potential for another one. Like Bond, or Batman.

It might be better than 50-50 TREK3 gets made, but another 4-year wait (or longer) might make it even less likely. It's a TV franchise. {nm}

more like 99-1% Paramount obviously doesn't care about the quality so it won't take long to crank out another Orci/Kurtzman special

It's the same mistake they made with the Stargate series. They pissed off the traditional fan, with Stargate Universe, in hopes of getting

ISTM the Cost/Benefit of TREK3 is more dubious now. But TREK3 might make sense as a transition of the franchise back to TV. {nm}

Recast Kirk et al for TV, new 5-year (or 7) mission begins. TREK3 would be optional, but again could perhaps set up that transition. {nm}

US box office represents 25% of a movie's total take these days. with international, Into Darkness will be ridiculously successful

A rule of thumb is a movie needs a domestic gross > production budget to make a profit. TREK2 will barely break even by that standard. {nm}

International results on TREK2 remain to be seen. Overseas for the first was just under half domestic, i.e. weak. 1:1 is decent. {nm}
