It is consistent with internal logic. That logic is that the character isn't bound by laws of science.

And I found the "magic blood" not a problem because its unreal, its because it removes any tension from that film or any other future films in that series. Once death is "cheated" then whats to be worried about? It hurts the film on a narrative level.

Once you agree to the suspension of disbelief that the wolverine character can exist, you are also subscribing to the notion that ANYTHING is possible. because once you accept that the character exists when its utterly impossible for him to exist in a world that is bound by our laws of science, then you can't say "i want these set of rules to apply, but not this set". You've already agreed with the filmmaker that none of this applies.

Wolverine does not have superhuman strength {nm} RazorHawk Jul 09, 10:54

superhuman fast-twitch muscle fibers, maybe? {nm} forlorne Jul 09, 11:00

no, he has healing factor, superhuman senses, and bones coated with metal, no superhuman strength {nm} RazorHawk Jul 09, 11:05

The air resistance on a bullet train speeding at 185mph will knock you back. {nm} Antibody Jul 09, 11:01

really, so what? its a comic book movie, its not real, none of it is real. As soon as you say, that could never happen" Moviesnob Jul 09, 11:09

I don't get your "it's only a movie" argument. Believability is the difference bwetween a good movie and a bad movie. {nm} Antibody Jul 09, 11:11

because its subjective. You cant get hung up that these conventions. Once you've established its science fiction, its not bound by any Moviesnob Jul 09, 11:19

That's not true, the best science fiction are within a consistent internal logic. Bad sci-fi use "magic blood" to overcome death. {nm} Antibody Jul 09, 11:27

It is consistent with internal logic. That logic is that the character isn't bound by laws of science. Moviesnob Jul 09, 11:39

I think I disagree here. GIJOE had ridiculous things that were part of the movie, like accelerator suits and nanomites. I could accept RogerMore Jul 09, 12:43

i think the two are different. I havent seen the movie but I think its reasonable to portray superheroes acting like superheroes and have Moviesnob Jul 09, 13:12

Each superhero has defined powers and weaknesses. Doesn't mean every superhero is automatically all-powerful. {nm} Antibody Jul 09, 14:08

Your bar is set way too low if you subscribe to the theory that anything is possible because it's make-believe. That's lazy filmmaking. {nm} Antibody Jul 09, 12:50

My bar is my bar. I expect superheroes in superhero movies to act like superheroes. I dont think thats a low bar. {nm} Moviesnob Jul 09, 13:09

One of the great pleasures of "The Incredibles" is watching their superheroes work around limitations, i.e., before... second gary Jul 09, 20:33

Multiple commenters have pointed this out on io9, AICN, CBM...etc. You'll lose the geeks if you don't follow expected movie logic. Antibody Jul 09, 11:15

thats their perspective. I choose to enjoy movies and not be bound by "verisimilitude". I like being able to watch a synth rock band fight Moviesnob Jul 09, 11:23

With Antibody on this one. Logic trumps stupidity. You can stretch logic to some point but we all have our limits. {nm} doitdoitdoitnow Jul 09, 11:49

OK...so how does the MOS shave his indestructible beard? How does he leap faster than gravity to always catch up to falling objects? {nm} mrbinns Jul 09, 12:23

Heat vision. Superman came from Krypton which had a much heavier gravity than Earth. {nm} Antibody Jul 09, 12:44

that wouldn't make him free fall faster. I doubt there's a sci-fi/comic book movie out there that doesn't violate internal logic +/or forlorne Jul 09, 13:34

Superman gets his superpower from our yellow sun. {nm} Antibody Jul 09, 14:06

it has been etablished he has some kind of internal propulsion (ie flight) so he can travel down faster than gravity. {nm} dobler Jul 09, 15:03
