"This movie could either be cathartic or, because it hits so close to home, people may not want to spend two hours

...with something they're living with every day," said Russell Schwartz, a movie marketing consultant and former studio executive. "It's also a movie that's being released against the tide, when uplifting stories and light escapism are thriving."
Yeah. My thoughts are, from having seen it, that the film is just too profound, and strikes too much of a nerve. Sure, people affected by the financial crisis may very well want to see it - for cathartic and therapeutic reasons - but in a theater next to strangers, perhaps not so much...
It may do better on the DVD-market, by comparison, oh and... as an in-flight movie of choice? :-))
LAT: 'Up in the Air' gives Paramount a marketing challenge. Antibody Nov 30, 10:22
its an interesting point; I just got laid (not really) or sosmeone I know, why don't I go watch a movie about it {nm} sneak Nov 30, 10:29
It is a cakewalk compared to Lovely Bones. ;) {nm} notfabio Nov 30, 10:50
Well....... I believe LVBON will do mutliples of the numbers UPAIR will do. But both will be massively marketed on directorial merits... {nm} Facto Nov 30, 11:04
both films are to down ( subject wise ) to make them longs for me. ( how's that for an early gutcheck ?) {nm} JMT Nov 30, 11:09
I probably won't see LVBON, and have already seen UPAIR. Won't Peter Jackson have a huge fanboy turn-out, though? One quite above what Facto Nov 30, 11:27
These are pushpull-films allright. And what was the value of the LOTR-hitdirector in bringing succes to the last KingKong ? JMT Nov 30, 12:20
King Kong was a modest success, wasn't it? It just performed below what fanboys on HSX hoped for. Avatar is already in big trouble, I think. {nm} Facto Nov 30, 12:24

Can this info be correct, though? Paramount will spend $40M promoting a movie that cost $25M to make.. ?? Seriously... ??? Facto Nov 30, 12:08
That's normal for a studio wide release these days, plus an Oscar campaign. {nm} Antibody Nov 30, 12:17
Ok - good to know I can learn substantial new things here on HSX still, on any given day :-) {nm} Facto Nov 30, 12:21
Clooney looks dreamy in the ads. 'Nuff said! {nm} leo21 Nov 30, 16:52
