I don't think that makes that much sense, though. To use a hypothetical example:

Say a stock starts at 150 at the IPO. Many shares are moved after the original shares are sold, but it only moves a dollar or two. The, the next day, far fewer shares than that are moved, but the price moves far more substantially, even though the price of the stock gets higher and higher as more shares are bought. If it takes more shares to generate movement, why doesn't it become more and more difficult for the price to move? When I played a few years ago I remember that being the most frustrating thing about the game. I'm sure there are good reasons for it behind the scenes, but it always seemed a bit unfair, since normally we all make trades (with the exception of the final stages, when there are going to be predictable adjusts and delists) based on whether we think others are going to be buying or selling (thus moving the price up or down), and when people buying shares doesn't move the price up as much as it does any other time, it seems wrong.

If it would be overly unbalanced to let price move organically after an IPO's initial shares are bought, maybe they should just raise the number of initial shares that need to be bought (or make them unlimited for 24 hours) so that the price doesn't move until the next day.

Dear HSX - why set a IPO share amount if you aren't going to let the stock move after that amount is reached? 17 million more only 1.70 up {nm} JDolphin Sep 13, 21:34

You're last line is exactly my point - I just want HSX to be honest about when they are actually going to let the price move {nm} JDolphin Sep 14, 10:22

Your assumption is wrong. There's no "unique" setting for securities that exceed its IPO shares. {nm} Antibody Sep 14, 11:12

Then why didn't the stock move more than 1.87? Plenty of other stocks moved up and down yesterday - if there is nothing unique about post JDolphin Sep 14, 18:50

Its known that its not just how many shares but also how fast or slow they are bought that are factors. DTravel Sep 14, 11:48

I've heard that except - yesterday 23 mi shares after IPO vs 21 mil today - 1.87 change vs .8.48. {nm} JDolphin Sep 14, 10:19

Gotta agree with DTravel too. i belive how fast or slow they are bought has something to do with it too. Dorfman Sep 15, 06:38
