Christmas Day in Ukraine

Many Ukrainians have a day off on Christmas Day, which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. It is an annual public holiday across Ukraine and falls on January 7, the Orthodox Christmas date.

What do people do?

The period from January 7-14 is a festive week.

Seth Rogen has volunteered as tribute. {nm} RamsFan2004 Sep 29, 21:16

I don't understand... Why would they do that? Do they want the movie to bomb? {nm} Animal Sep 30, 02:58

....more {nm} Animal Sep 30, 05:22

They couldn't wait any longer for North Korea to get its act together {nm} RamsFan2004 Sep 30, 05:59

the problem with releasing a film over Thanksgiving is that the following two weeks are typically awful. Opening early, islander Sep 30, 06:04

Yeah but this is the final Hunger Games right?? {nm} Dorfman Sep 30, 06:34

either way, theres no good date with that and star wars, all the films might as well give it up til 2016 {nm} islander Sep 30, 06:41

Counter programming on xmas day could have worked especially with the plot {nm} RamsFan2004 Sep 30, 07:00

But after dec 26, who wants to see a Christmas movie? {nm} islander Sep 30, 07:08

With star wars in town, it's gonna be hard to open period {nm} RamsFan2004 Sep 30, 07:14

I don't think there's a lot of audience overlap between XMAS and HGAM4. And it's normal for Christmas movies to get a November release. RogerMore Sep 30, 08:01

Lots of adults like Hunger Games too. Think this is a mistake. MiyazakiFan Sep 30, 08:07

I think XMAS is aimed at a particular segment of the adult audience that is not so much into Hunger Games. RogerMore Sep 30, 08:31

I'd be part of that segment. Though I don't miss college, and I'm 37. lol {nm} Dorfman Sep 30, 14:16

Problem is, all the studios want to get "their" big movie out for the holidays, and it's always a crowded time... {nm} Flash Sep 30, 08:06

You have to remember that, even if a film does $100m opening weekend, that only represents... EdwardHavens Sep 30, 13:09
