You do realize that digital theaters are used for more than just 3D movies, right?

I highly doubt that Universal won't want some of them for Wolfman... many filmmakers prefer digital projection because it guarantees the movie will look exactly as intended.  Avatar is barely on 6 digital screens in Manhattan right now, and that's basically four or five screenings a day. It will have to give those up eventually and February 12 seems the most logical date.  It won't make $700 million before that... I say it tops out at $670 or so.

Weekend estimates: [LEGIN] $18.31 [TOFRY] $14.05 [XMEAS] $6.575... Avatar is $37.175 secretstalker Jan 24, 08:27

Adjust numbers: LEGIN $49.44 (up $3.99), TOFRY $37.94 (down $7.86), XMEAS $17.75 (down $4.4) secretstalker Jan 24, 08:45

Thanks {nm} tonyj1 Jan 24, 08:46

That is only a 13.1% drop for AVATR from last week. {nm} tonyj1 Jan 24, 09:13

It will beat TITANIC even if it were to completely run out of steam and drop 50% every weekend from here on out. INSANE. {nm} dsbman Jan 24, 09:17

Forget Titanic, thats a given. The only question now is can it get to 700M domestically? {nm} tonyj1 Jan 24, 09:36

That might be pushing it. It's going to start losing theatres real fast on 2/12. All three movies will try to get 3,000 Plus. {nm} secretstalker Jan 24, 09:58

Yes it will lose theaters by then, I would think. My projections (which I seem to adjust higher every day) has AVATR at about 630 million tonyj1 Jan 24, 11:09

Has Beauty And the Beast 3D backed off the date? Haven't heard anything about that? {nm} dsbman Jan 24, 11:36

yeah, it got moved to next year a while ago... I just asked someone who might know about it the other day, in fact. secretstalker Jan 24, 11:46

They want to package it as a 20th Anniversary Celebration, the IMAX 2D only re-release in 68 theatres did 25 million notfabio Jan 24, 21:30

why would IMAX and 3D screens be lost? it is a huge money maker for these screens! ndmaster Jan 24, 12:34

Because you could lose the rights to future IMAX and Disney releases or worse terms notfabio Jan 24, 17:25

You're still doubting the film; it's making $700m+ xiayun Jan 24, 12:40

i dont see avatar losing theater count drastically. its playing too well for that. shawman Jan 24, 14:15

Hm... BOM has slightly different estimates secretstalker Jan 24, 09:17

Uh huh and isn't that where Nikki gets them? lol {nm} grammar Jan 24, 09:37

I don't know where she gets them from. I'm not Nikki. secretstalker Jan 24, 09:52
