If you saw the first film, why would you be expecting Firth in this one in any capacity? He was pretty conclusively killed by Samuel L Jackson. Flashbacks would only give him so much screen time, unless you're trying for a Godfather 2 type situation. Maybe he's in a bunch of training videos made prior to his death?
