not in Hogan's Heroes, no. In fact, HH's is criticized for trivializing what camps were really like

Posted by: Moviesnob on Apr 28, 15:58 in response to Captain Obvious' post Nobody Died in the Nazi POW Concentration Camps?

there's a not so subtle disctinction between Life is Beautiful, which attempts to show historical reality and make that humorous and Hogan's Heroes, which dumbed down the POW reality for network audiences so they could laugh without guilt. While I dont agree with Brooks, he is talking about something different than HH. He's talking about suffering and how depiction of real suffering and an attempt to bond an audience with that suffering through hunmor is disrespectful. HH never tried to show realistic suffering.

Michael Reagan and Patti Davis outraged by use of REAGAN's Alzheimer's for a comedy Antibody Apr 28, 15:03

Tough Bite. Inside is a Complete List of all the Comedies that have never Outraged or Offended a Single Person. Captain Obvious Apr 28, 15:09

How many based on a real person's illness? {nm} Antibody Apr 28, 15:09

Please Provide a List of all the Things that you can't Make a Comedy about & Explain Why. Thanks. {nm} Captain Obvious Apr 28, 15:18

I think Mel Brooks sets the boundaries pretty damn clearly bennyg1985 Apr 28, 15:21

You didn't answer the question. {nm} Antibody Apr 28, 15:24

You didn't Provide the List. ..... Waiting. {nm} Captain Obvious Apr 28, 15:29

You're hilarious. I asked first. You changed the subject. {nm} Antibody Apr 28, 15:32

his google searches came up empty but here's one - The Madness of King George {nm} Moviesnob Apr 28, 15:36

I haven't seen it, but seems more like a straight biopic Antibody Apr 28, 15:39

its more dramedy than comedy but theres a enough humor in it to qualify in this discussion {nm} Moviesnob Apr 28, 15:41

To me, this is the same thing as how I find The Producers hilarious and Life is Beautiful offensive bennyg1985 Apr 28, 15:19

They could just change the name of the President. {nm} Antibody Apr 28, 15:27

The Comedy 'Hogan's Heroes' was about a Nazi Concentration Camp (Prisoner Of War - POW Camp). {nm} Captain Obvious Apr 28, 15:29

Brooks is talking about death camps {nm} Moviesnob Apr 28, 15:38

Nobody Died in the Nazi POW Concentration Camps? {nm} Captain Obvious Apr 28, 15:50

and thats not even getting into the difference between POW camps, where their main function was to house soldiers and put them to work Moviesnob Apr 28, 16:06

Amazing true fact: The guy who played LeBeau on Hogan's Heroes had been in a German concentration camp CG63 Apr 28, 22:59

If this was a movie made mocking a person who died of AIDS, would there be a different reaction? {nm} Silverblue76 Apr 28, 15:31

Considering Reagan's deplorable record of failing to deal with the AIDS epidemic I have zero sympathy with him or his family. {nm} hyperzeitgeist Apr 28, 15:35

"When AIDS was Funny". Reagan administration's chilling response to the AIDS crisis... hyperzeitgeist Apr 28, 15:42

+1. {nm} Captain Obvious Apr 28, 15:51

So the families of the 45+ Million People Worldwide with Alzheimer’s deserve to be mocked & belittled because of Reagan? {nm} Silverblue76 Apr 28, 21:18

I watched my grandfather die of it, now I'm watching my father die of it. There's absolutely nothing funny about Alzheimer’s. {nm} Silverblue76 Apr 28, 21:18

The PC Police and SJWs have ruined comedy. Yes, there's a small (but vocal) group that this will offend, but it COULD entertain even more. {nm} skamanfu Apr 28, 15:40

You don't have to be PCP or SJW to find the concept to be in bad taste. I can see the potential for it to be irreverently funny, but, it's edzep - Port Monkey! Apr 28, 15:47

Thjey made fun of Reagan's Alzheimer's while he was still alive.... RazorHawk Apr 28, 16:04

They were mocking his selective memory, RE: Iran-Contra, not Alzheimer's, which to my knowledge had not been diagnosed in the early 80's, {nm} hyperzeitgeist Apr 28, 16:16

What is that? A British puppet show? {nm} Antibody Apr 28, 16:20

It's called Spitting Image. It was a satire show that ran through most of the 80's using latex puppets.Although that excerpt was from a show hyperzeitgeist Apr 28, 16:26

You lived through the 80's Anti.... you saw that puppet here... RazorHawk Apr 28, 16:30

Oh wow.. I remember that now. {nm} Dorfman Apr 29, 05:36

this seems like the occasion for which the term "too soon" was invented {nm} CG63 Apr 28, 23:00

Michael and Patti need to read up on the term "Streisand effect". {nm} davmoo Apr 29, 09:37
